Todd Cordell: New Jersey Devils: What Are Your Line Combinations?
- Todd.Cordell

We missed yea yesterday ! I like those Combos but I think I would switch Zajac with Henrique to start things off then go from there. Also do you know if Jagr has lost some weight ? I seen a picture of Elias and him and for someone listed at like 240 he hardly looks 15 lbs bigger then Patty boy or is he Bulking up some

Patrik Elias - Travis Zajac - Michael Ryder
Ryane Clowe - Adam Henrique - Jaromir Jagr
Rusty Olesz/Jacob Josefson - Andrei Loktionov - Dainius Zubrus
Ryan Carter - Stephen Gionta - Steve Bernier

Andy Greene - Adam Larsson
Bryce Salvador - Mark Fayne
Anton Volchenkov - Marek Zidlicky

Schneider
Brodeur

I like Ryder playing with a playmaker in Elias. Jagr is more of a playmaker at this point in his career and I would like to see him mentor Henrique a bit.

The defense was the hardest cause i'm really hoping that a kid can step up and take a spot. If that doesn't happen i'll be very worried as I do not trust the other pairs at all.

Edit: TWO POSTS YEAH GET AT ME

The third line is going to be real interesting. Going to be some heated position battles in camp.

Any line with Clowe and Jagr might be too slow.

Anyway, here's a different option

Elias-Loktionov-Jagr
Clowe-Henrique-Ryder
Olesz-Zajac-Zubrus
Carter-Gionta-Bernier

It stinks to have Zajac on the third line, but with him and Zubrus forechecking, they might get quite a few scoring opportunities. He could also play on the top power play unit.

I like this idea if we're going with the three second lines approach. We have a scoring line, an all-around line, and a strong big-bodied defensive line.

I don't think they ever skate together on the same line for the national team except for the PP maybe.

This is how I would like to see them:

Clowe - Zajac - Ryder
Elias - Henrique - Jagr
Olesz/Josefson - Loktionov - Zubby
Carter - Gionta - Bernier

We will see what training camp brings though, cause this could be completely different after that and the pre season.

Interesting suggestion. I could agree, but I feel Henrique will benefit more playing with Elias and Jagr. Switch Lokti with Henrique.

Elias – Olezs – Jagr (Czech-Mate line)
Clowe – Zajac – Ryder
Henrique – Loki – Zubi
CBGB Line

Andy Greene - Adam Larsson
Bryce Salvador - Marek Zidlicky
Anton Volchenkov - Mark Fayne

These line combinations are more fun than likely. But if Loki could work with fellow countrymen last season, no reason the Olezs can't have the same luck with Elias/Jagr. Besides, that line would have the coolest name!

You really think Henrique is a third liner and a worse centerman then Lokti? I know it was just for fun but the third line is the last place I want a kid LIke Henrique when we need him to develope into the best player we can make him and he hasnt had much success on the wing previously.

It is kind of interesting that everyone has held of putting a youngster on the back end but makes sense with the contracts the vets are signed to

I think he's going to surprise a lot of people once he gets a real chance and he won't have that pressure of "proving his worth" contract hanging over him. I can see him anywhere from the top line to the bottom line, kid does have skill and size. The Devils just need to get rid of some of these vets they keep bringing back.

I watched PDB interview at camp about the kovy situation and other things and from what I gathered Olesz will be given every oppertunity make the team as Pete believes he belongs in the NHL and was a victim of his contract and the salary cap. From everything I gathered He likes Rusty and I could see him working out just as well as Bernier has

Hopefully since Harris and his group are set on growing the Devils brand they should spend some of that money and get us a HBO 24-7 series Iactually really enjoyed Oil change and even CH 24-7 even though the habs are one of my least fav teams

I'm going out there a bit:

Elias - Zajac - Ryder
Tedenby - Henrique - Jagr
Clowe-Loktionov-Zubrus
Bernier - Gionta - Carter

Greene - Larsson
Salvador - Fayne
Merrill - Zidlicky

Schneids
Marty

Yes you read that 2nd line right, I for one have not given up on Tedenby yet. Maybe it's because I'm stubborn, but more likely because I believe that when given an opportunity in the top 6 he can be extremely effective (like when he was playing top 6 minutes his rookie year). The same way a lot of us hope Jagr can help Henrique, the same could be said for Teds (or JJ, or any young guy really). Teds isn't meant to be a 3rd/4th liner. So that's where my 2nd line comes from. 1st line is IMO a good combo of offense and defensive responsibility. Zub and Clowe on the third line will make lots of space for Lokti. CBGB, nuff said.

I don't really know what to do on D after Greene-Larsson. I really want Merrill on this team. I said this partially as a joke the other day but legitimately Zidlicky should be on this team for almost exclusively power-play, he should get no defensive zone starts, at least at first. Sal is the captain for some reason so he'll play almost every night. If Merrill impresses I think it will become a real ice-time battle between Fayne, A-Train, and Harrold.
